President: Paul Dickenson
We are very proud to have Paul Dickenson as our club president. As an athlete, Paul competed in two consecutive Summer Olympics; Montreal in 1976 and Moscow in 1980. He held the British and Commonwealth Records for the hamerthrow.Paul joined the BBC Sports team in 1987 as a track-side reporter and since 1990 he has commentated on every major athletics meeting for the BBC as well as the Winter Olympics and Paralympics. A voice that is known to millions, Paul has also commentated on programmes such as the Lord Mayors Show, Superstars, World’s Strongest Man, Comic Relief and Sports Relief and many other major outside broadcasts.
Secretary: Sylvia Fitzwilliam
Sylvia has been the Club Secretary for what she says is “too many years to think about”. She became a social /volunteer member when her son was about 12 years old – and he now has a daughter older than that! He still holds the U13 boys Club Record for High Jump which dates back to 1985. In all these years she has generally been an administrator, not an athlete, though the Annual Club Championships did occasionally see her throwing Javelin, Discus & Shot- nothing to write home about though, she says, just for fun!
Social Secretary: Diane Ratcliffe
Diane and her husband Gerald joined the Club shortly after it was reformed in 1976. She has served Dacorum Athletics Club and its successor, Dacorum and Tring Athletics Club, ever since in a wide variety of roles. Diane got involved initially when her late husband joined as an athlete, as did each of her three sons, and has been variously an occasional athlete herself, an Athletics Official and Team Manager and has fulfilled a whole range of Club Committee and administrative roles over the years. She is a longstanding Herts County Athletics Committee member and member of the Herts County Athletics Network and has been the principle contact for other Clubs and Athletics League Officials for much of this time.
Treasurer: Rob Salt
Rob took over as Treasurer in 2012 having originally becoming involved with Dacorum & Tring through his son Matthew who started running for the club when he was about 12 years old and having watched Matthew taking part in many a muddy Chiltern Cross Country Race, he now runs for the club himself with the adult Road Runners section, taking part in his first Cross Country Race since the 1970’s in early 2013. In his youth he also used to run middle distance for Verlea (now St Albans AC), but now, he says, “it’s much more of a gentle jog!”.
